Like many other gambling games,Bingo is also a game of chance, in American Bingo, randomly selected numbers are drawn and players match those numbers on a matrix of 5x5 which are printed or electronically represented and known as "Cards".
The first person who has all the corresponding numbers on the cards to those numbers (which are randomly selected and drawn) is the winner and calls out the word "Bingo".
There is a slight difference in the Bingo played in U.K. orr Housie played in New Zealand or Australia as the calling and tickets are slightly different.
History of Bingo
The Origin of the Bingo game is from a lottery game called as "Lo Giuoco Code Loto", played in Italy in 1530.
In 1929, near Atlanta a game Beano was played using dried Beans, rubber stamps and Cardboard sheets. Edwin Lowe who watched that game conducted a similar game. It is said that one player who was the winner of the game had called out "Bingo" instead of "Beano". That made the history of Bingo game.
Variations of Bingo Games
Christmas Bingo
Each player brings three presents and no other participant knows which presents other players have brought. The presents are hidden in brown paper bags and when all the players have arrived, they form a circle. Then, the presents are taken out of the bags and put in the center of the circle.
Each participant receives the blank bingo card with 25 empty boxes before starting of the game. Each participant fill out the empty boxes with numbers between 1 to 40 without repeating the same number.
Then game starts with the calling of the numbers by the callers. He picks the numbers from the hat and then calls out the number. Each person who has that number on their card crosses the number off and selects a present from the center.
Each person who has the number which has been called , comes and take the present from the circle.
Play continues till no presents remain in the circle. At this point the players "snatch" the gifts from other players. Play ends when the Caller is left with no other number.
Buzzword Bingo
In Buzzword Bingo, participants prepare bingo cards with the BUZZWORD and ticks them off when they are uttered in meeting or a speech.
The goal of the game is to tick off a predetermined number of words in a row and then to yell out "Bingo".
Bovine Bingo
Bovine Bingo is played in country fairs in summertime for the purpose of fund raising.
It is a form of lottery rather than a form of Bingo. By chalking lines in the grid, rectangles are made on an enclosed land area such as paddock. Within the enclosed land a livestock animal is let loose and where the first defecation is excreted determines the winner.
Road Kill Bingo
This game is played while driving towards a long distant destination. In this Game the pictures of 24 different animals are printed on paper or cardboard and placed randomly in a grid.
Whenever a player spots the dead specimen of any animal printed on cardboard or paper that area is marked off by a bingo blotter.
The object of the game is to spot a sequence of five dead animals which are in the same row or column on the bingo card.
Lingo
Lingo combines the feature of two games, one Jotto and the other is the form of Bingo. Jotto (sometimes Giotto) is a logic-oriented word game played with two players, a writing implement, and a piece of paper.
Each player picks a secret word consisting of five letters. The object of the game is to correctly guess the other player's word first.
